This picture of a “Lucia cat” is playing with words. It’s a combination of the old tradition of Lucia coming to light up the Swedish homes in December in her white long dress and with candles in her hair and the name of the specific saffron buns Swedes eat during whole december, called “Lucia cats” or “Lucia buns”.

card #542 “Lucia Cat” / “Lussekatt”
This is a little word game – the “Lussekatt” is a traditional christmas bun – a sweet milk and wheat meal bread baked with saffron. “Lusse” is also a short name for “Lucia” who is represented in Sweden in a traditional performance in december with a girl dressed in long white dress with a candle crown on her head along with the songs about the Lucia bringing the light in the midwinter darkness.
