card: Swedish Kings & Queens of the Bernadotte Dynasty 200 years

card #200: Bernadotte 200 years, the Swedish Kings & Queens of the Bernadotte Dynasty 200 years

The Swedish Royal Court is this year celebrating the 200 year anniversary of the Bernadotte dynasty on the Swedish Throne. The Swedish Bernadotte story started in 1810 when the Swedish King Karl XIII who had no sons decided to adopt the french Marshal Jean Baptiste Bernadotte (appointed Marshal of France by Napoleon Bonaparte). Jean Bapbtiste accepted, got the title Swedish Crown Prince and the Swedish name Karl Johan. When Karl XIII died in 1818 became Jean Baptiste the Swedish King Karl XIV Johan. Todays King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf is the seventh king of the Bernadotte dynasty and his Queen Silvia is the seventh woman who moved from another country to manage a life with a Swedish Bernadotte King. Their oldest child is a girl so next Bernadotte on the throne will be a Queen by heritage.

– As I was drawing these fourteen portrays I got more and more amazed by their personalities, their challenges and life stories. The seven queens who left their countries and families and single-handed have managed to stand strong in spite of unlimited expectations and often no real support and again and again initiate progressive and clever actions. Everyone has an interesting story to tell. And when the stories involve changes for many people it's more than interesting. /Katarina

To make the card complete are all dates, titles, names and places of origin for both the kings and queens printed on the rear side.
